Ce musée situé à Zuffenhausen (près de Stuttgart, le berceau de la marque) a une architecture très futuriste et impressionnante, à l'image de la marque Porsche qui produit des voitures sportives et luxueuses. Porsche a été créée en 1931 par Ferdinand Porsche, ingénieur automobile ayant créé notamment la Volkswagen (voiture du peuple) que nous connaissons sous le nom de coccinelle. Cette voiture avait été commandée par Hitler. Autant dire que Porsche avait du talent. L'entreprise ayant accru sa notoriété grâce aux idées révolutionnaires de son créateur s'est très vite créé une place sur le marché de l'automobile et a vite augmenté ses ventes. Porsche est reprise plus tard par Ferry Porsche, le fils de Ferdinand qui va suivre les pas de son père. Cependant, il fallait répondre aux attentes du marché, ce qui a conduit a la construction d'engins inattendus tel un tracteur (collection aujourd'hui).

L'entreprise est egalement très présente sur les circuits car Ferdinand avait l'esprit ouvert et cherchait la performance de ses moteurs mêlée à l'aérodynamisme de ses voitures. Ainsi, Porsche a gagné de nombreuses courses ainsi que le monde. 

Les modèles les plus exceptionnels jamais produits pour la route ouverte ont bien été la Porsche Carrera GT (dans laquelle a succombé Paul Walker) issue d'une véritable voiture de course à laquelle on a amputé le moteur. Sa descendante la 918 Spyder n'a pas décu non plus.

De plus, le nombre 911 rappelle aujourd'hui dans le monde entier la marque Porsche, c'est le modèle emblématique de la marque.
